“The 100” Recap: An Alliance Broken

If you have seen this weeks episode of The 100, then you know it was a crazy one! Though the Arkadia storyline is one we have seen before, the Polis arc and Team Nightblood arc were both excellent. “A Lie Guarded” was written by Kim Shumway and directed by Ian Samoil.

“Everyone’s guilty of something.” | Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) takes Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) off of his security detail; she’s becoming too dark and violent for him. Roan (Zach McGowan) has captured Bellamy (Bob Morley) and another guard, though Echo (Tasya Teles) quickly uses her signature move and slits the other guards throat. Before she has time to harm Bellamy, Kane interjects and tells Roan everything they’re doing at Arkadia with the Ark and the nightblood. Though he told the truth, it’s too little too late in King Roan’s eyes, so he has them locked up. He also tells his guards to capture Octavia and Indra (Adina Porter), but kill the rest of Skaikru and Trikru; their alliance is broken.

Octavia finds out the news while seeking out Indra, all of Trikru in Polis has been slaughtered. One man was still clinging on to life, he told her what happened and assured her Indra survived. She’s gone to warn the rest of their people, which is what Octavia should be doing. She takes that advice, but is tracked down by Echo and two other Azgeda warriors. O easily kills the other warriors, but her and Echo must come to blows. Echo tells her multiple times that Roan wants her alive, but Octavia will not give up. Echo accidentally–you can tell she is shocked by what she’s done– stabs Octavia through the stomach, causing her to step back and tumble off the cliff and into the swift waters hundreds of feet below.

Echo quickly hardens herself and returns to Polis, where she delivers the news to Bellamy that his sister is dead. And let’s just say that Bellamy didn’t take it so well. That was by far Morley’s most stunning performance on the show.

Team Nightblood | Team Nightblood go off on a search for the island Becca where held her lab. They believe she created nightblood there. They plan on using Luna’s (Nadia Hilker) blood and Becca’s equipment and notes to bio-engineer more, enough to save everyone. When they arrive to the island they cross a barrier on the beach and are attacked by A.L.I.E.’s drones, they seem to still be up and working even though she’s not. Luna runs away and is shot at by a drone, Nyko (Ty Olsson) jumps in front of her, taking every single bullet for her. He dies and she gets away from everyone. They split up to look for her and take out the drones. Because of Raven’s (Lindsey Morgan) leg she stays on the beach, but that turned out to be the perfect place for her. Luna returned to steal the boat, but Raven convinced her to stay and help them. Together they got a broken drone and hacked into its system, shutting all the drones off.

They meet up with everyone else and find Becca’s once heavily guarded fortress. They get inside and see the most beautiful, high-tech lab any of them has ever seen. Fingers crossed this plan works!

Playing God | The Arkadia story is one we have seen before in Season 1; Jaha (Isaiah Washington) had to send 100 kids to the ground, Kane had to have the culling. Now Clarke (Eliza Taylor) is in their shoes. Her list of 100 people who will survive gets out thanks to Monty (Christopher Larkin)–who surprisingly wasn’t on the list. Jaha calms everyone down and tells them they’ll do a lottery, but they have to do their jobs around camp to be entered into it. They all agree and get back to work.

She’s Alive! | Octavia Blake did not die after all! She somehow survived and is found by her horse. She clumsily climbs onto him and tells him to take her “home.”

Other Thoughts:
• The opening scene with the delinquents “floating” Jaha was cute and hilarious.
• Jasper (Devon Bostick) was the voice of reason this episode? the world really must be ending.
• Monty absolutely should have been on that list, he’s the one who realized they could fix up the Ark to live on!

What are your thoughts on the episode? Did you believe Octavia to be dead, or did you know she wouldn’t go down that easily? At least now she can warn her people Ice Nation is coming.

The 100 airs Wednesdays at 9pm on The CW.
