While Grimm‘s Reggie Lee was concerned about the possibility of his newly-part-neanderthal character Sgt. Wu heading to the dark side, fellow co-star Sasha Roiz had the complete opposite feelings and says “it’s great” that Sean Renard is on the Scooby Gang’s opposing side.
OMFGTV chatted with Sasha Roiz where he discusses dark Renard and whether he believes there’s still a chance for redemption.
“I pleaded for that to come,” Roiz tells us about Renard’s dark turn. “I was soliciting our producers for a couple years now. I was like, ‘Take [Renard] back, take him back into the dark side!’ I don’t want him to be predictable. This was a great turn and it’s only going to get far darker and sinister, which is great.”

With Grimm‘s final chapter consisting of just 13 episodes, we wondered if that would give Renard enough time for redemption, whether or not the producers choose to do so.
“I think we’re kind of late in our run,” he says. “There doesn’t need to be redemption at this point. I’m happy to be the primary antagonist as well. It’s nice to have an in-house tension and friction that’s kept within the lead characters rather than having to bring in an outside baddie. We’re all kind of dealing with these dynamics within our own group which is much more interesting to me.”
Roiz also previews the season premiere and says that the show picks up from the exact moment from when Renard “accidentally” saves Nick’s (David Giuntoli) life.
“It’s a very tense moment,” Roiz says. “I think they’re both highly confused, highly worn out. Also the whole Black Claw, Hadrians Wall, that has been really exhausted. Both sides have had tremendous losses. It really is Nick and Renard at the helm of the two factions facing off as they did. That’ll take us into the rest of the season.”
Stabbing Bonaparte (Shaun Toub) to save Nick, Roiz says that Renard understands that Diana (Hannah R. Loyd) probably had something to do with it “because she’s already manipulated them in the past.” He goes on to reveal that Diana will play a big part in Season 6.

“This is an untamed wealth of power that she posses that she doesn’t even have control over and we’re just getting a sense of how powerful she can be. That’ll be part of the challenge — trying to tame her, but also, knowing Renard, utilize her to some extent.”
For our final question of what might be our last ever Grimm interview with Sasha Roiz, we wanted to know: If there was an opportunity for Renard to get redemption this season, would he be open to it?
“Not a chance,” he says. “I refuse to be good again.”
