For many seasons, Sgt. Wu on NBC’s supernatural drama Grimm felt like a second banana — essentially being a character with very minimal lines and screen time. He would pop up on screen, give Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) new developments on the cases they’d be working on, and then walk off camera just as quick as he’d appeared.
Now that Sgt. Wu is entangled in and privy to Nick’s fantastical life, and even he himself discovering that he is now turning into this primal, neanderthal creature, we suspect his presence in the series’ upcoming final season will be given a big boost.
OMFGTV sat down with Wu’s portrayer, Reggie Lee, this past summer where he spoke about his initial qualms about the surprising new journey for his character and more.

When first reading the script revealing his transformation, Lee’s first reaction was, “Nooooo!” He couldn’t believe the direction in which Wu was headed.
“As an actor, you’re always thinking, ‘Oh he’s going to the dark side, and then he’s gonna get killed off, then he’s done,'” Lee tells us. “Fortunately, it didn’t go that way. I didn’t want that to happen. I think he can use his power for good and I really feel this enormous sense of power that I haven’t felt before. Even transforming back to the cop, I feel more powerful, which is a change for Wu. I feel like I’m more part of the group.”
With Captain Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) being mayor and going to the other side, the group is going to need all the help they can get — and Wu has an open invitation. Lee says that the new season is “definitely back to Scooby Gang mode,” and promises “you’ll see a lot more of us working together.”
Before the collective group tackles anything major, however, Wu may face some hurdles as he discovers what it is he has become, how far he can take it and possibly if there’s more to it. “I think that’s something [the writers and producers] will always play with. Hopefully they’ll explore that more.”

One facet of Wu’s life that viewers never got to see explored is his romantic life. Relationships on Grimm almost always never are what they first appear to be. “Complicated” is the term a lot of the cast members use to describe their various relationships.
Because the show is heading into its final chapter, consisting of only thirteen episodes, and because the gang has bigger fish to fry and a lot on their plate, we unfortunately don’t see a storyline in the romance department coming up for Wu. But we presented the question to him anyway on if he’d like to see Wu in love.
“Like a neander-chick? Yes, of course!” Lee exclaims. “It’s interesting because there’s so many relationships going on in this [show] and they’re usually within the cast rather than not. It would be nice to have one.”
Love interest or not, we’re just extremely happy that Sgt. Wu and the charming man who plays him is now more involved with the gang. “I love the way that they’ve turned him into someone that they can ally with — and finally I feel useful.”
Grimm Season 6 premieres Friday, January 6, at 8pm on NBC.
