The Flash Recap: Don’t Freeze Out Your Friends

This week’s episode of The Flash revolved around our favorite biochemist’s evil side. Appropriately named “Killer Frost”, episode seven followed Caitlin Snow’s fight for control with the super-villain within. We also learned a bit more about Savitar, God of Speed, and Wally took another step closer to re-becoming Kid Flash. Here are some of the events that went down.

COLD SHOULDER | In an attempt to save Barry (Grant Gustin) from the clutches of Savitar (voiced by Tobin Bell), Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) uses a particularly strong burst of her powers and it pushes her over the edge from Caitlin Snow to Killer Frost. She lures Joe (Jesse L. Martin) out of an interrogation with one of Dr. Alchemy’s (also voiced by Tobin Bell) cronies in order to ‘interrogate’ him herself about Alchemy’s whereabouts. She freeze-blasts the camera, the room, and the crony. A couple of other detectives come to his rescue but she sneaks out in the commotion. However, Julian (Tom Felton) spots her and she takes him hostage. When Barry arrives at the station, he finds out that all they know is it is a female meta and that she has taken Julian. Caitlin brings Julian to a frozen foods warehouse and needs him to write an algorithm to help her track down Alchemy’s acolytes based on their search history. She tells him to use the keyword “Savitar” and that sparks a look of recognition from him that he quickly hides. He finds two names and gives her their addresses. The team uses the same method they used to track Captain Cold (RIP Snart I still miss you) to track Caitlin. Barry shows up just before Caitlin freeze-blasts Julian and tries to talk her down. Julian yells at him to knock her out so Barry compromises and knocks Julian out instead. Instead of talking Caitlin down, it only seems to make her worse and she (as Killer Frost) goes off on him about all the people’s lives he has wrecked with his mistakes. She tells Cisco (Carlos Valdes), via comms, that his brother Dante was alive and well until Barry created Flashpoint. Cisco is heartbroken and my tears formed the next Great Lake. The detectives show up but Barry wooshes her out of the way. To repay him, she jams an icicle into his leg, severely wounding him. She takes off and tell him not to follow.

Back at the lab, after being patched up, Barry goes to talk to Cisco. Cisco is heartbroken and betrayed but is more concerned at the moment with Caitlin being out there and hurting. He hacks Julian’s computer and gets the addresses he gave to Caitlin. He takes one while Joe and H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) take the other. Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) team up to watch Wally’s (Keiynan Lonsdale) chrysalis. Caitlin shows up at the house Cisco is watching and confronts the man living there. He tells her he has seen Alchemy take powers before but she can never make him do anything. He tells her that Savitar showed them the future and has special plans for her. Cisco calls out to her from the street and she goes out to meet him, western style. Barry shows up, still injured, but manages to kick her feet out from under her. She retaliates by giving him the frozen kiss of death. Thankfully, Cisco vibe-blasts her away and Barry starts to slowly thaw back out. They put Caitlin in the pipeline and she has gone full Killer Frost, white highlights and all. They need her help with Wally so Barry goes to her and opens the cell door, telling her that she is free to go, IF she kills him right there. He is gambling with her humanity and thankfully it works and after a tense moment she breaks down in his arms. She is back to being Caitlin, power-dampening cuffs and all. Joe gets a text that Julian is awake and Caitlin is afraid seeing as Julian can identify her as his attacker. Barry goes to talk to him and Julian agrees to keep his mouth shut if Barry quits CCPD. Barry will do anything to protect the people he cares about so he agrees.

EVIL SPEED JESUS | The episode started where we last left off with Barry being choked by Savitar, God of Speed. Joe gets the jump on the cronies holding him but when he goes to shoot Savitar he runs into a teeny tiny problem; he can’t actually see him. Barry yell at him to just shoot but bullets don’t seem to affect him. Savitar takes Barry on a little jog and it is the fastest and worst run ever (and I’ve tried to run off a Thanksgiving dinner before). Savitar decides to let Barry have a little breather at the waterfront where Cisco vibes himself and Caitlin before Caitlin freeze-blasts Savitar. Now they can seem him but he shatters the ice on him and zooms out. When Joe interrogates one of Alchemy’s cronies the man starts talking about his master rising and the judgement of the human race. Later, when Caitlin is ‘interrogating’ a different acolyte, he tells her that Savitar showed them the future and that Alchemy is merely an acolyte just like them. He also tells her that Savitar has very special plans for her, which is totally not at all creepy. After he wakes up in the hospital, Julian hears Savitar’s voice in his head, calling to him. He panics and runs from the hospital, only to crash straight into Savitar who tells him only together can they bring about his return. Julian later goes to a tool bench in his lab and opens it to revel THE DR. ALCHEMY COSTUME!!!

METAMORPHASIS | When last we left Wally, he had just been engulfed in a lava-rock chrysalis. Caitlin informs them it is more like how a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly implying that Wally is actually in the goo-phase of his transformation so breaking him out of there would be bad. While Caitlin is in the pipeline in full Killer Frost mode, Joe finally breaks and tries to break Wally out. He succeeds by using a bone saw to cut open the chrysalis and it explodes, blowing them all back. Standing where it used to be is a vibrating Wally, who then wooshes out without a word. They need Caitlin so Barry goes and bargains with her humanity to get her out of Killer Frost mode. She makes a compound that should get Wally’s brain and body operating on the correct frequency and it works. Wally is even faster than Barry was when he started out and is anxious to get out in the field with Barry (slow your roll, kid).

So what did you think? Did you know Julian was up to no good? I mean, more than just being salty? What do you think of Wally getting his Speedforce? How long do you think it will be before Killer Frost rears her frozen head again? Let us know in the comments!
