syfy-van-helsing-111-last-time-hilary-jardine-susan-preview

When we last saw our dwindling group of survivors on Syfy’s Van Helsing they were leaving Eden and heading towards Susan’s (Hilary Jardine) family’s farm. Episode 11 takes the survivors on a dangerous journey, ending in death for one member of the group and a revelation as to who the hospital murderer really is. Let’s not forget, Dmitri (Paul Johansson)  and Rebecca (Laura Mennell) reveal their plans for Vanessa (Kelly Overton) and why she is so important to them. Here is OMFGTV‘s recap of episode 11 of Syfy’s VanHelsing, “Last Time.”

The Vamps Reveal Their Plans | Julius (Aleks Paunovic) has captured Magdalene (Gwynyth Walsh) looking for the baby she was supposed to get from Eden. Magdalene reveals Vanessa saved the child. Magdalene claims she would have told Julius sooner, but Dmitri is unaware they are working together and would greatly disapprove if he found out.

Speaking of Dmitri, we finally discover what him and Rebecca have in store for Vanessa. They will catch Vanessa and mix their blood with hers, allowing them to, theoretically, walk in the sunlight. Dmitri points out to Rebecca that she has made a lot of similar promises in the past that were false. His trust in her is faltering, she begs him not to lose faith in her. She promises, again, that she knows what she’s doing, and he lets her live.

Later, Rebecca delivers her insider info about The Resistance to Dmitri, warning him of an impending attack where sunlight will be used against them. Rebecca points out Vanessa’s vampire-like quantities, strength and rage, and says she is more vampire than human. Rebecca requests a legion to capture Vanessa so The Resistance doesn’t find her first. Dmitri still doesn’t trust her, and accuses her of wanting the legion to turn it over to Julius to work with him. Dmitri denies Rebecca’s request and tells her Vanessa is already being taken care of.

“Pray for sun.” | Vanessa, Susan, Mohamad (Oliver Mahoro Smith) and Sam (Christopher Heyerdahl) make it to the house Susan grew up in. Susan is hopeful that her parents are still alive, but admits it has been a long time since she has been there. Susan is devastated when she finds her mother’s grave in the backyard, but relieved to discover she died before The Rising began. The group finds a working radio transmitter in the house and use it to get in contact with someone in Salt Lake City, he tells them he’s heard Denver is the safest place to go. The city’s high elevation puts it above cloud level, protecting it from the vamps.

Sam decides it’s time for a makeover so he shaves his head and beard, leaving him completely bald. He looks at himself in the mirror and begins to cry, then he suddenly gets creepily calm. He’s a master at controlling his emotions.

“Closure.” | The group discusses their next move; Susan wants to stay, Mohamad wants to find his sister, then meet up with Vanessa and go to Denver. The group chat is interrupted by a noise outside. When they go to investigate they discover that Susan’s father has been turned into a feral. Instead of being upset, Susan says this is what he deserves, he is the reason she left home and stopped talking to them. She never told the others what he did to her. She reveals he abused her in some way in the past, so she is okay with him suffering now. She ends up shooting him in the head with his own gun, how’s that for closure?!?

“I feel like I’m just barely hanging on.” | After killing her father, Susan disappears for a while. The other three decide to split up to find her. Sam is the one who finds her, alone in the woods. She admits to him that she’s barely hanging on at the moment. She’s really struggling with the way the world is, and Sam senses that. They hug, but the hug quickly takes an unexpected dark turn when SAM STRANGLES SUSAN. Now we know who the hospital killer is! He even cuts off one of her fingers as a souvenir.

“I killed Susan.” | Mohamad doesn’t trust Sam after Eden, so he looks through Sam’s stuff when they still can’t find Susan. He makes a gruesome discovery, Sam has the collection of fingers from his victims. He rushes to tell Vanessa, but Sam knows he’s been caught and fesses up. After seeing Susan’s lifeless body, Vanessa holds her shotgun in Sam’s face and demands an explanation. Sam reveals he’s always been a killer, even when he was a boy. Vanessa knows she has to kill Sam to pay for all the lives he’s taken. He also says Susan was weak, that he killed her to protect Vanessa. Sam tries to use Mohamad’s love for him to get his life spared, but Mohamad won’t budge. He knows his friend must pay for what he’s done. Vanessa decides last second that they are not killers, but she does cut Sam behind the knees, leaving him unable to walk.

“They’re together, a family again.” | Unfortunately for Vanessa and Mohamad, Sam is one lucky bastard who does not want to die. A feral attacks him, but Sam gets it to just bite him in the hand so he can turn. Mohamad and Vanessa bury Susan next to her parents, her family once again whole, when they hear vampire Sam yelling, “I can hear you.” Vanessa and Mohamad flee just before Sam gets there and digs up Susan’s body for blood.

Poor Susan!!! She definitely didn’t deserve a death like that, and now Sam is a vamp! This is not good for Vanessa, Sam could easily betray her to Julius or Dmitri. And now we know why the vampires want Vanessa so badly, not just to stop her from making them human, but also so they can walk in the daylight. They will be unstoppable with Vanessa’s blood, let’s hope they don’t get it! Let us know below what you thought of the episode and if you think they will make it to Denver or not.

Van Helsing airs Fridays at 10pm on Syfy.
