Van Helsing Recap: “For Me”

van-helsing-107-for-me-recap

Syfy’s Van Helsing left the previous episode off with our favorite survivors getting their hospital back, but Vanessa (Kelly Overton) is not getting better. This week, the group will face a new threat trying to get them out of the hospital. Will Axel (Jonathan Scarfe) finally give up and leave, or will he continue to fight? Here is OMFGTV‘s recap of Van Helsing‘s seventh episode, “For Me.”

“She has a human companion, a woman.” | The episode kicks off with Dmitri (Paul Johansson)  speaking with the doctor he has working for him. The doctor mentions some experiments he is working on with Rebecca (Laura Mennell) that involves children, then Dmitri mentions Sheema (Naika Toussaint). The doctor confirms that Rebecca keeps Sheema around like a pet, letting her come and go as she pleases. Suddenly, they are interrupted by a messenger, who tells Dmitri that Julius (Aleks Paunovic) plans to capture and keep Vanessa for himself. Dmitri decides to kill the messenger as a message to Julius.

“Orders from Dmitri: We want the woman. Julius’s prisoner.” | Mohamad (Oliver Maharo Smith) is still alive, and he stumbles across Catherine (Sarah Desjardins) and another of her group the same time a group of hungry vampires attack them. They are stopped on a bridge by a group of assassin vampires sent by Dmitri to retrieve Vanessa. They kill the other vamps and fatally wound Catherine. Mohamad runs to her with just enough time for her to tell him Vanessa is alive at the hospital. Later, he comes upon a group of parked trucks. After a quick search he finds a case of weapons and flares.

“As far as I can tell, Julius is about to tear this place a new asshole.” | The group has noticed that the hospital is starting to fall apart, they feel it is time to move on, unfortunately Axel does not agree. Part of the group notices Julius leading a small army of vamps their way to take Vanessa. Vanessa is afraid, but Axel makes her a promise to kill her before he lets them get her. Vanessa doesn’t seem to be on board with this plan.

“The girl who we thought couldn’t die, is dying.” | Julius and his crew reach the hospital and he sends a group of vamps at the doors. They are taken out by the UV lights surrounding the entrance. Eventually a few get past the lights and begin breaking them so others can walk right up to the doors. Upstairs, Vanessa takes a turn for the worst when she flat lines. John and Doc work tirelessly to save her. They get her heart started again just in time to perform surgery on her wound. Doc thinks whatever is keeping Vanessa from healing is in the wound, so she cuts into it and digs around until she pulls out a tooth. Vanessa immediately begins to heal.

“We need more warriors.”|  Though Julius’s crew did break through the hospitals outer defenses, they were stopped inside by several of Axel’s booby traps. The surviving vamps crawling out of the hospital, asking for more fighters. This small group of humans proves to be much more difficult than Julius had anticipated.

“We’re dead.” | As Flesh (Vincent Gale) fills the group in on ancient vampires, they spot an explosion in the distance and see a flare go off. The flare (which was shot by Mohamad) makes them take notice of that group of assassin vampires, Dmitri’s Death Squad. One member of the squad steps forward and delivers their message, give them Vanessa and they can go free. Nicole (Alison Wandzura) is the only one who wants to turn Vanessa over, all the others want to fight and protect her, so Nicole goes off on her own.

“That’s the guy who killed me.” | Axel doesn’t thing the Death Squad will be able to make it through the hallway of UV lights, but boy is he wrong! The first one to go down the hallway is actually human, the one who killed Vanessa over 3 years ago. He smashed the lights, letting the others in. Nicole is being pursued by one member of the Death Squad. When he corners her she takes her gun and shoots herself in the head. She’d rather be dead than turned into a vampire.

“It’s time to abandon ship.” | Axel has an escape route planned, and one last booby trap set. He ushers his friends out to a modified ambulance he named Wanda. As they drive away the building explodes, incinerating the vampires within. Mohamad is watching from a distance and cheering, then he notices his friends driving away from him and becomes worried and feels abandoned.

What. An. Episode. It contained everything from science, to action, to new adventures for our rag tag group of survivors. What do you think Mohamad will do now that his group has left him behind? Will Julius follow Vanessa wherever she goes? Let us know below what you think will happen next week on Van Helsing!
