“Post-Apocalyptic Civil War Mayhem.”
That’s how actor Aleks Paunovic describes his new show, Syfy’s Van Helsing. In the vampire thriller, Paunovic plays Julius, a power-hungry vampire who will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals.
OMFGTV recently spoke with Paunovic about some of his bloodier scenes, including the ones with syringes and a heart! Aleks admitted that, as a “dude”, he was really excited for his bloodier scenes.
“When I read the syringe and heart episodes, I was like, ‘Dude! I get to drink [blood] out of a syringe, what?!? I get to eat a heart?’ It was super fun to have that playground.”
Aleks was very excited that while filming those heart scene Showrunner/Executive Producer Neil LaBute asked him to squeeze the heart so more blood dripped out.

Paunovic is no stranger to sci-fi, and that is due to the creativity and freedom the genre offers. “I love sci-fi so much, because you can create and play outside of the realism and the reality of the world that we live in.”
Paunovic has a background in stunts, which really prepared him for his role as Julius. What Aleks was not prepared for was his tight leather pants which made shooting his fight scenes a little more challenging.
“Some of the fight scenes have been difficult, and I’ve even ripped a few pair.”
