“Supergirl” Episode Review: Girl Against the World

In the Supergirl episode “Myriad,” Non and Indigo activate Myriad, a program that turns all of National City into their army. Supergirl must make a drastic decision to save the city, while Alex and J’onn reunite with Eliza.

In the penultimate episode of the season, the show piles on the “Totally Screwed.” Myriad turns the city to a standstill, except for Grant and Lord, who both have special technology that makes them immune. The irony of Supergirl teaming up with the two most careless characters on the show is fascinating and the dynamic between the three is fun.

Lord, of course, wants to nuke the city to stop Non, leading to an ethical dilemma on whether or not they should go through with the plan. It’s not a new storyline, but seeing Supergirl struggle with letting her friends die vs. saving the world was a new dimension for the show and it gave us good drama.

Alex and J’onn returned after being absent last week, and had a brief reunion with Eliza. Another fun scene was seeing Eliza question J’onn on not just her husband’s death, but the physics of life on Mars. Alex was forced to decide whether or not to go into the city to save her sister and it lead to a pretty cool fight scene between J’onn and Indigo, before Alex fell under Myriad.

“Myriad” was essentially the prelude to the finale, piling on the hopelessness, which was a new role for the show. The finale is next and it won’t disappoint.
