Syfy‘s hit new show Wynonna Earp may be on hiatus, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t relive some of their favorite moments from season 1! This season contained everything an audience of the genre could ask for; mystery, horror, the supernatural, a bit of romance, lots of humor, and a sisterly bond that cannot be broken.
I know it is very difficult to choose a favorite moment from a TV show when the show is filled with lines and scenes that are all award worthy, so to save you from such a difficult task I have compiled some of my favorite moments together here for you. In no particular order, here are my top 10 moments from Wynonna Earp season 1:
1) The first exciting moment of the season comes in near the beginning of the season when we find out that John Henry is none other than Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon) , Wyatt Earp’s best friend who was reported to have died from tuberculosis. But how is he alive? Is he actually a Revenant working against them? Is he an angel sent to protect them? Turns out that Doc is neither Revenant nor angel, and his intentions with the Earp family never become 100% clear.
2) The second exciting moment in the season came in episode 2 when Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) and police officer Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell) meet for the first time. As soon as Officer Haught walked through the doors at Shorty’s both Waverly and audiences became enamored with this confident and mysterious new character. Is Waverly attracted to this newcomer? What about her boyfriend Champ (Dylan Koroll)? It is immediately clear that this character is going to be important to the show in some capacity.
3) Willa (Natalie Krill) is alive!!!! Though it is not clear when she is first introduced who Willa is (she was going by Eve), once she picked up and used Peacemaker successfully it became obvious she must be the eldest Earp sister. But where did she come from, how did she survive, does she remember who she is? The answer to the last question is no, she does not remember who she is, not immediately anyway. We find out later that the Stone Witch kidnapped her from Bobo (Michael Eklund) and erased her memories, ensuring she would not return to him.
4) Episode 9 finally gives viewers something that had been teased about in previous episodes, a scene with a flamethrower! Bobo gets to set fire to Constance Clootie (Rayisa Kondracki)’s newly resurrected, not quite human, son. Michael Eklund mentioned in interviews that this was his favorite scene to shoot all season because he got to wield the flamethrower.
5) Episode 8 had a bit of a Fight Club sort of feel to it when it came to the story line of Doc and Dolls (Shamier Anderson). The two men go undercover at an underground fighting club and are forced to fight in exchange for information they need. Moments before the fight Doc learns that Dolls has told Black Badge who he is, and he is furious. So furious, in fact, that he accidentally kills Dolls out of rage. But wait! Dolls comes back, says he learned how to play dead in the military, and drives them home. It is apparent that Doc does not believe this story about playing dead, and starts to believe there may be more to Dolls than meets the eye.
6) The “ship” fans have named Wayhaught finally comes to fruition in episode 9 when Waverly pulls Nicole into Sheriff Nedley’s office and kisses her! The show had been building up to this moment ever since Waverly and Nicole met in episode 2, and fans were not disappointed. One line that really had Earpers (what the fans call themselves) on their feet rejoicing was when Waverly was confessing her feelings and said “When I think about what I want to do most in this world…it’s you.”
7) In episode 12 Nicole comforts Waverly in a tender moment between the couple and responds to Waverly talking about being tired with “I know, baby.” Earpers hearts everywhere grew three sizes that day. This was exactly what Waverly needed to hear in that moment. Nicole may not know everything there is to know about Waverly Earp, but her responding this way shows that she supports her girlfriend no matter what.
8) Are Willa and Bobo in love?!? The end of episode 12 finds Willa and Bobo sharing a kiss, leaving viewers astonished and confused. Was she really kidnapped by “The Seven”, or did she go willingly? Has she been brainwashed into thinking Bobo is good, or could Bobo actually be good and we just don’t know it? Is this a classic case of Stockholm Syndrome or something else entirely?
9) LGBTQ+ viewers were ecstatic during the finale when Nicole Haught revealed after being shot in the chest that she was wearing a bulletproof vest! This is exactly what the queer community needed, a show defying the Bury Your Gays Trope. This scene had everything, it had Waverly being outed to Wynonna by Willa and Wynonna accepting it, Waverly confessing her love for Nicole, Nicole surviving a potentially life-threatening incident, and a tender goodbye kiss shared between Waverly and Nicole. This was definitely one of the biggest moments in the entire season.
10) The last of my favorite Wynonna Earp moments is probably the most important thing in the entire show, and that is the bond between Wynonna and Waverly. From their reunion in episode one up until Waverly touches the black goo in the finale, Wynonna and Waverly showed a much deeper bond than what is normally shown for any type of relationship on television, let alone a relationship between sisters. They were always there for each other and supported each other when they needed it. Waverly was able to forgive Wynonna for leaving for so many years and for killing their father. She was also able to forgive Wynonna for being the heir, when she is clearly more suited for the job. But will their relationship remain the same if Waverly reveals that she may not be an Earp? And what about that black goo that she touched, will it make her shoot Wynonna?
Well there you have it, my top 10 favorite moments from Wynonna Earp season 1. There were countless other moments I wish I could have included, but I think a top 50 list would be a little too long. Comment below with some of your favorite moments from the season!
