Revenge, explosions, and Android with her hair down? Whether you missed the episode, had a stasis pod malfunction that wiped your memories, or just needed to refresh them, here’s what happened in Dark Matter: We Voted Not To Space You.
Episode 5 opens on a woman walking up to a bar and ordering a whiskey. We soon see that she is none other than our very own Android (Zoie Palmer), with her hair down and wearing civilian clothes, having apparently used the upgrade Victor gave her in the previous episode. She finds who she’s looking for, a man named Danny Bones, and tells him that a friend of him told her where to find him, and that she wants to talk. He refuses and tries to have her forcibly removed from the bar—big mistake. She fights off several assailants and drags his body out the back door.
“If we don’t fight for each other, then who the hell will?” | Back on the Raza, the crew discusses what to do with Devon Taltherd (Shaun Sipos). Four/Ryo (Alex Mallari, Jr.) points out that “while he may not be a cop, that doesn’t make him one of us” to which Five/Emily (Jodelle Ferland) replies, “What exactly is ‘us,’ anyway? Cause lately I’ve been kinda wondering.”
Two/Portia (Melissa O’Neil) informs Devon that “we voted not to space you…for now,” then asks to talk to Six/Kal (Roger Cross) alone. She asks him if he would be willing to help them solve One’s/Derrick’s (Marc Bendavid) murder, and find out who the GA’s person of interest is. His advice? Sneak into an understaffed, isolated GA outpost, and tap directly into their system.
However, there’s a flaw in Six’s plan—the whole crew of the Raza is still on the GA’s most wanted list. Android volunteers to sneak into the outpost, since, because she isn’t technically a person, no charges were ever filed against her. She shows Three/Marcus (Anthony Lemke) and Two the upgrade given to her by Victor in the previous episode, which will allow her to pass as a human. Her idea is to get herself arrested, so she can gain access to the GA’s system.
“Sh*t-talking a GA guard.” | Android boards the outpost, by all appearances and mannerisms a human being. Hair down, wearing civilian clothes, and even a walking with a bit of a swagger. Unfortunately, she finds it harder than expected to get arrested. She opens a restricted door and is all but ignored, so resorts to tossing a security guard’s hat down a hallway and ripping his shirt half off. Android then distracts the GA guard who is booking her, and plugs a transmitter into his computer, which allows Five access to the system.
Five finds that, while the GA has suspended the investigation for unknown reasons, they do have a suspect—Jace Corso, aka the original owner of One’s face. Five asks Devon and Nyx (Melanie Liburd) if they know anyone out of the Adara Sector, and Devon tells her that he knows a few smugglers. Five has the idea to find someone who can find Corso for them.
Devon retrieves the syringe and vial we saw him inject himself with in the previous episode from a hiding place in his room. We see him have a flashback to losing a patient he was operating on, then see him inject himself with the syringe.
“I will sell anyone out. You wouldn’t believe the stuff I have on my own mother.” | We cut back to the opening scene of Android in the bar, then to the man she dragged off being cuffed in the Raza. We learn that he is an associate of Season 1’s Wexler, who was an associate of Jace Corso. However, Danny Bones is unwilling to sell Corso out, as Corso will kill his family if he does. Two promises that Corso won’t live long enough to.
Back at the outpost where Android got herself arrested, the GA figures out that it was the crew of the Raza who hacked their system, and piece together where they’re going, so they can intercept them.
The Raza travels to the coordinates Danny Bones gave them, and Two, Three, Four, and Nyx prepare to go down to the planet to attack Corso. In the seemingly-abandoned building they enter, Two, Three, Four, and Nyx come under fire from Corso. They manage to wound him, but he locks himself in a bunker. Corso sees the GA forces enter the building with his motion sensors, and starts an “Emergency Protocol” with a 5 minute countdown on his tablet. Nyx manually opens the door using the wiring, but when the door opens, Corso is gone. They find a hole in the floor of the bunker, and set off after him.
“Hopefully? Aren’t Androids supposed to be a little more precise than that?” | Meanwhile, a GA cruiser has arrived near the Raza, so Android lands the Raza on a lake, and Six, Five, and Devon try to make it to the building, over 2 miles from where the Raza landed, in time to warn their crew of the GA.
Two catches up to Corso in the tunnel and disarms him, and the GA enter the tunnel behind them. The “Emergency Protocol” countdown hits zero, and the exact thing you’d expect happens—the whole facility blows up. Fortunately, however, the tunnels are mostly safe. But the group is all split up by tunnel collapses; Three with Nyx, who saves him from getting crushed using the same talent she demonstrated while sparring with Four in the previous episode, Two with Corso, and Four all by himself, with his legs trapped under a pile of rubble. A GA officer finds Four and arrests him, and they wait for GA reinforcements to find them using the officer’s emergency beacon.
Corso attempts to stall Two’s killing him by asking her if she wants to know who hired him. She believes it was Traugott Corporation, the same corporation who tried to have them killed in prison, but he says that she’s wrong, and if she wants revenge on the people really responsible for One’s murder, she has to keep him alive. But Two replies, “You’re the one who pulled the trigger, and for now, that’s good enough,” and shoots him in the head. Three and Nyx find a different way out of the tunnels and join up with Two to prevent the GA from taking Four.
Back on the Raza, Two and Six speculate about who could have hired Jace Corso to kill One. Six mentions that One had been worried about the CEO of his father’s company, whom he was set to replace. Three walks into the room, but leaves when he sees Six, still stinging from his betrayal.
“You made a mistake. You’re not supposed to make mistakes.” | Meanwhile, Android’s holographic red-jupsuited twin confronts her, telling her that her programming is defective, and her choice to install the upgrade was further evidence of that defect. Twin Android then tells her that she has become a danger to the ship and everyone onboard, and Android knows it.
