Last season on The CW’s supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries, fans watched as the unlikely pairing of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) built a friendship while being stuck in the other dimension.
Graham, speaking with OMFGTV and other outlets this past summer, says that now that the two are now in the real world, they will be spending a lot of time with each other — just don’t call them “besties.”
“You’re going to see them butt heads,” Graham previews. “You’re going to see them come together, you’re going to see that love/hate relationship more front and center this season for sure.”
In terms of storyline, Graham reveals that Damon and Bonnie are “going to definitely get into some missions and trouble together.”
As for whether the two will spark a romance, the actress hasn’t been told whether or not that would happen. “I obviously think that would be a great exploration for these characters to come together and I think it would be interesting how they would do that.”
We posed the question: “Would Bonnie do that to Elena and betray her best friend?”
“Would Caroline do that to Elena with Stefan?” she asked us. “She did. What’s the difference?” Ahhh, touché!
The series’ upcoming season will show what Bonnie looks like being alone, this time without something to fight for.
“You got to see the character really alone in another dimension, but the whole time she’s fighting to get back to her friends,” she says. “This is now Bonnie not getting back to anyone. She knows her best friend is gone and she’s looking at Damon as her comfort, what she knows is her best friend at that point.”
Graham says that in addition to seeing things that The Vampire Diaries has never done before, fans can expect to see a lot of what we’ve come to know and expect from the show.
“You’re going to see a bunch of magic and vampirism just full front and center,” she previews, adding that in the past we saw “Bonnie kind of only being on one side of that kind of coin. She’s going to be limited but we’ll see what she’s capable of.”
Season 7 of The Vampire Diaries premieres October 8 at 8pm on The CW.
