David Mazouz (Touch) takes on the “role of a lifetime” when FOX’s much-anticipated new series Gotham premieres this fall.
We sat down with the Los Angeles native during the San Diego Comic-Con and he gushed about taking on the iconic role and how he’s approaching it.
“It’s really an amazing opportunity to be playing Bruce Wayne,” Mazouz says. “It’s not just such an iconic character. The thing is that he’s such an interesting character to play. He’s angry, he’s dark, he’s lonely, he’s scared.

“Go back to when you were 12 and imagine losing your parents right before your eyes. It’s a hard thing to go through. We’re getting to tell a chapter in Bruce Wayne’s life that has never been told before and I think that it’s really fun to tell and how he went from being a regular billionaire 12-year-old boy to Batman.”
During the first few episodes of the series, Mazouz tells us that the show will explore more of Bruce’s darkness and compulsiveness as he searches for a reason behind his parents’ death. “You’ll see him not being such a happy kid.”
For the young actor, whose television credits also include Mike and Molly, Private Practice, and Drop Dead Diva, getting to play Bruce Wayne during a time that previously has never been seen, Mazouz says that getting into his mindset wasn’t as difficult as some may think.
“It’s just acting,” he explains. “A lot of people have been asking me what do you channel into, what do you dig inside of you to have that kind of emotion for that scene when the parents get killed. The answer is I don’t know. I just kind of do it and hope the audience likes it.”
“Actors live for interesting roles,” he continues, “and if this is not an interesting role, I don’t know what is.”
Gotham premieres Monday, September 22, at 8pm on FOX.
