Scott (Tyler Posey), Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) and Lydia (Holland Roden) bring the teenage Derek (Ian Nelson) to the animal clinic to see Dr. Deaton (Seth Gilliam) to check to see if he’s okay. They find that young Derek heals very fast and is not only a teenager through his body, but also his mean, meaning he doesn’t know any of them are. The day after, he wakes from his unconsciousness and, scared out of his mind, attacks Deaton and flees the clinic.
Derek goes back home and finds nothing more than scraps. A couple of deputies arrive and tell him that there has not been a house there for years. They run his prints which pulls up Derek Hale’s file. Sheriff Stilinski (Linden Ashby) tells the deputies that he will take care of it and then asks incredulously how Derek managed to get younger. He asks if they’ve been time traveling and if they found in a fountain of youth, but that’s crazy, right? The truth makes much more sense: They found him buried in a tomb of wolfsbane in an Aztec temple in Mexico underneath a church in the middle of a town that was destroyed by an earthquake. Okay, maybe the fountain of youth explanation is more plausible than that. Sheriff Stilinski releases Derek into Scott’s care and Scott promises to find his family after they get his memories back.
Scott and Malia (Shelley Hennig) go to see Peter (Ian Bohen) to ask about Kate. It is the first time Peter is meeting his daughter Malia, but doesn’t bring it up. They ask him why Kate would turn Derek back to a teenager again and he tells them that Kate turned back to a time where he knew and trusted her. Kate shows up in Scott’s room and sneaks Derek out of the house and pressures him to take her to the family vault to retrieve the Triskelion.
Scott, Malia and Peter go to the high school to stop Kate from getting into the vault when Malia picks up a familiar scent — a scent she first caught back in Mexico. From the distance, an unusual growl is heard and Peter instantly recognizes it — it’s the Berserkers.
Peter catches up with Derek and Kate in the vault and reveals to her that the Triskelion is nothing more than a piece of junk — a mere object for one to focus on while they try to control when they shift. Looks like Kate wanted it to help her control her werejaguar-ness. Derek hears Scott shouting as he and Malia fight the Berserkers and runs to help them. He takes on two Berserkers and slowly but surely shifts back to normal Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) and eventually scares them off.
Back in the vault, Peter is enveloped in wolfsbane smoke as a mysterious figure robs Peter of his bonds equaling $117 million. Turns out it was never about the Triskelion. It was all a plan to get into the vault and steal his millions.
BEST BITES AND OTHER OBSERVATIONS
• We laughed out loud when Sheriff Stilinski asked Scott and Stiles if they’ve been time traveling. In a town where supernatural creatures exist, it’s natural for Stiles’ dad to ask that. But it wasn’t something that crossed our minds and it was a bit outlandish, but hilarious nonetheless.
• Seeing young Derek really, REALLY made us miss Paige (Madison McLaughlin), Derek’s first love who we met in last season’s episode, “Visionary.” I hope we get more flashbacks with these two!
• We’re a bit tired of Kira showing up near the end of a fight to “save the day” with her slow-motion entrance and showing off her sword skills only to have her ass served to her just seconds later. We feel it’s almost pointless to have Kira try to help them fight at all. She should just stay home.
