The Teen Wolf season finale ended on a good note. The episode, titled “The Divine Move,” included a few deaths, sets up some story for next season, and even brought back a familiar face. Let’s run through what went down.
In the aftermath of Allison’s (Crystal Reed) tragic death at the sword of an Oni, Scott (Tyler Posey), Lydia (Holland Roden) and Isaac (Daniel Sharman) wait at the sheriff’s station to give their statement about the events that took place that lead to the death of their friend. Prior to that, they had been given some coaching by Allison’s father (JR Bourne), who had provided with a cover story about two men who had tried to steal their car. One of them had a knife and stabbed and killed Allison.
Over at the Yukimra house, Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) gets a big piece of advice from Mr. and Mrs. Yukimura (Tom Choi, Tamlyn Tomita) about making a move outside of the box, a divine move, to defeat the Nogitsune once and for all. While this is happening, the Oni go on a rampage with Evil Stiles and attack people left and right at the sheriff station, at Beacon Hills Memorial, and at the animal clinic. Will Melissa (Melissa Ponzio), Sheriff Stilinski (Linden Ashby) and Deaton (Seth Gilliam) die with their Oni inflicted wounds?
Scott, Lydia, Stiles, and Kira (Arden Cho) arrive at the school to take on the dark spirit and are magically taken into a beautiful Japanese zen garden where the Nogitsune shows up with several Oni in tow. After a quick battle, they realize that it’s all an illusion and to just walk past the Nogitsune and are transported back to the hallways of Beacon Hills High.
Meanwhile, Derek (Tyler Hoechlin), Ethan and Aiden (Charlie and Max Carver) are outside of the school fighting Oni and get a lot of help from Mr. Argent. Argent and Isaac discover that Allison has found a way to kill the Oni by using silver. Mr. Argent uses what’s left of Allison’s silver arrowheads to strike through the Oni and put them down.
Scott and his gang are confronted by Evil Stiles who tells them they’re out of moves. Lydia and Stiles show their hand and bring up their divine move which includes the Shugendo Scroll which reveals the way to defeat the Nogitsune by changing the host body. After fearing that he’s been outsmarted, the Nogitsune gets a werewolf bite from Scott and a sword through the chest by Kira. The dark spirit finally crackles and disintegrates into dust on the floor before vanishing completely.
Finally, Derek tells Stiles of a dream he had where a family of hunters were looking for a she-wolf. Derek doesn’t give in and tells them that they will never find his sister Cora, a name they are unfamiliar with. Just then, someone infiltrates their meeting where the hunters are shot down and from the billowing smoke, someone comes up to Derek and shoots him. The shooter? Kate Argent (Jill Wagner)! The presumed dead sister of Mr. Argent was turned into a werewolf when her throat was slashed and survived her murder after all. It is she who they call the she-wolf that this family has been trying to find for a while.
The finale also ended with Malia (Shelly Hennig) joining Beacon Hills High, Scott giving Malia a few lessons on her abilities, and Danny (Keahu Kahuanui) breaking up with Ethan.
The season ender was quite a ride and we’re glad the Nogitsune storyline is over. We can’t wait to watch all the new stories in the forthcoming season.
BEST BITES
• We thought it was cute that Scott was teaching Malia a few tricks including baring her claws. We can already picture a montage in the season premiere with the two of them practicing their skills.
• When Danny breaks up with Ethan his reasoning is because he doesn’t feel like he can date a werewolf! Danny knows! And how does he know? “Dude, it’s Beacon Hills,” he tells Ethan. Hopefully now Scott and his friends can talk freely about all the supernatural goings on with Danny.
