As we near the halfway mark of 2021, moviegoing audiences have already been treated to some great films, such as “A Quiet Place Part 2,” “In the Heights,” “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” not to mention more on the way, such as “Black Widow,” “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” “Old” and “Snake Eyes” releasing this month alone.
But movie fans are also getting impatient waiting for first look trailers for a number of films, some of which are scheduled for release this year, others further in the future. Regardless, cinephiles are left to wonder about these five films, since there are few details to go on.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” | There’s a lot of upcoming Marvel movies that could go on this list, namely “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “The Marvels” and the long awaited “Fantastic Four” reboot (Third time’s the charm?), but the third installment of Tom Holland’s run as the web slinger deserves special mention since it’s supposedly releasing this December and no word on a trailer much to the chagrin of the legions of MCU faithful. Following up on the cliffhanger ending of “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” there are many, many rumors surrounding this threequel and fans are salivating to see if they’re true.
“The Matrix 4” | Also slated for a Christmas release is the much hyped fourth installment of the Wachowskis’ science fiction saga, which will somehow resurrect Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie Anne Moss as Trinity after their deaths in “The Matrix Revolutions” back in 2003. With additions such as Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Christina Ricci, the Matrix faithful are dying to know more.
“The Last Duel” | Director Ridley Scott has brought many epic stories to the screen, including “Gladiator,” “Prometheus” and “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” and his latest looks to continue that trend. Focusing on a duel between Knight Jean de Carrouges and his squire, the real draw is the all star cast, including Oscar winners Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, Oscar nominee Adam Driver and Emmy winner Jodie Comer. Slated for an October 15 release, hopefully we’ll see a trailer soon.
“Scream” | What’s your favorite scary movie? For many, it’s the late Wes Craven’s 1996 masterpiece “Scream” and its iconic Ghostface killer. In 2022, a long awaited fifth installment, simply titled “Scream,” is lined up to bring back Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette to face a new crop of murders and what is sure to be a great final twist as Ghostface is unmasked yet again. (Check out this fun fan-made trailer)
“Ambulance” | Director Michael Bay is back to his trademark action mayhem in his latest 2022 outing, “Ambulance.” Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalez, this thriller has two criminals steal an ambulance and go on a wild chase that, if the infamous on set stunt video is any indication, will be dangerous and exhilarating.
