“3 Body Problem” Episode “Wallfacer” Recap: The Man Who Knew Too Much

With two more seasons on the way to wrap up the story, it’s finally time for the season finale of 3 Body Problem which opens a whole new can of worms for our heroes. Saul is offered the most important job in the world, as Jin struggles with the upcoming launch, leading to a heartbreaking turn of events.

The Wallfacer Project | Saul (Jovan Adepo) wakes up after a one night stand with a woman whose name he can’t remember and as they walk outside discussing the aliens, a car suddenly goes off the road and hits and kills the woman. Saul is then taken by Clarence (Benedict Wong) who informs him that the car was trying to hit him and it was self driving, not to mention that Ye Wenjie was found dead in China. Clarence gives Saul a bulletproof vest and takes him aboard a private jet and flies him to the United States, where he meets Sebastian Kent (Josh Brewer) who takes him to the United Nations building in New York.

There, Saul is taken to the meeting of the Planetary Defense Council discussing the Wallfacer Project, which will put the trust of mankind’s secrets and potential survival in the minds of three people who will share their secrets with no one. Two of the people being trusted with these secrets, called Wallfacers, are military generals and counter terrorism agents, but Saul is announced as the final Wallfacer, much to his surprise.

Turning Down | Saul immediately refuses the responsibility and storms out of the U.N., but as soon as he leaves, he is shot in the chest. Fortunately, the bulletproof vest blocks the bullet and Saul wakes up in a hospital, but Saul demands to talk to the arrested shooter. On a plane to Cape Canaveral to launch the probe into space, Raj (Saamer Usmani) confronts Jin (Jess Hong) about Will and she finally admits that she loves him, which only makes Raj angry.

Saul meets the shooter, who apologizes for not shooting him in the head. Kent arrives and introduces himself as Saul’s liaison, even though he knows full well that Saul declined the job. Saul meets with the Defense Council’s chairwoman who tells him that they truly do not know why he was chosen for the job, but that he’ll know why when the time comes.

Tatiana (Marlo Kelly) arrives to her trailer in the woods to find a VR headset waiting for her inside. At Cape Canaveral, Will’s brain is loaded into the rocket launching the probe. The rocket launches, with Jin and Wade (Thomas Cunningham) watching from the control room, as Saul and Clarence arrive at the base. After a talk with Jin by the beach, Saul calls Auggie (Eiza Gonzalez), who is using her nanotechnology to filter contaminated water in Mexico, but she doesn’t answer the phone.

For the Bugs | The capsule launches through space and is accelerated further and further via the nuclear detonations in space, but one of the bolts on the capsule comes loose and makes it veer off course as Jin watches in horror. Wade whispers something into Jin’s ear, but we don’t hear what he says. As Wade is flying back to the U.K., his plane briefly loses power and a woman appears on the screen and tells him that there will be a place for him when the aliens arrive.

Saul and Jin drown their sorrows as Jin says that it will be thousands off years before the probe sees another star. As Saul mopes about how the aliens think of them as bugs, Clarence takes them to a nearby swamp and shows them swarms of bugs flying around and tells them that bugs aren’t going anywhere.
