“Echo” Episode ‘Lowak’ Recap: You Have a Train to Catch

Echo continues in an intense second episode, “Lowak,” which has Maya take drastic measures to get revenge on Fisk and Biscuits becomes an unexpected ally. Bonnie discovers a secret and Henry gets a warning.

Shopping List | In Alabama circa 1200 AD, a group of Native Americans are engaged in a lacrosse-esque game that will determine which of the two tribes competing will be forever banished from the land. One of these, a young woman named Lowak, has a vision of her ancestors, the same we saw at the beginning of the previous episode, and summons the drive to win the game. In present day, Maya (Alaqua Cox) gives Biscuits (Cody Lightning) a shopping list and he goes to see Skully (Graham Greene) to acquire a security camera along with some other supplies.

Back at Henry’s (Chaske Spencer) roller skating rink, he gets a visit from Chula (Tantoo Cardinal), the town elder, who demands to know why Maya is in town. Henry insists that she’s just passing through town and Chula says that she hopes that’s all she’s doing. Later that night, Maya makes Biscuits drive her to an overpass and asks him to track her using his phone as she leaps off the freeway and onto a train passing below. As Biscuits pursues the train, Maya breaks into one of the train’s cars and sees lots of sealed crates. She opens one and looks concerned, although we never see what’s inside.

Hitting Back | As she tries to leave the train, her prosthetic leg gets stuck in the connector, but she escapes after having another vision of her ancestors and her hands start glowing. She leaps off the train and onto Biscuits’s truck in the nick of time, as the train stops in New York City at Fisk’s shipping yard and blows up after Maya’s bomb she snuck into the crate is triggered. Henry hears about this and immediately texts Maya, as she asks Skully to make a new prosthetic leg for her. As Maya leaves with a makeshift leg- Skully is working on a new and improved version- she sees a clay model of Chafa, the woman from the cave, and Skully tells her that she appears in times of need.

As Biscuits goes to a shop to fix his truck, he calls Bonnie (Devery Jacobs) and lets slip that Maya is in town and she is less than thrilled. Henry confronts Maya, but she says that she will handle whatever is coming for her and Henry angers her by saying that she sounds like Fisk. As soon as Henry leaves, Maya gets a text from Bonnie demanding to know if she’s in town.

Echo is now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
