“SurrealEstate” Exclusive: Director/EP Danishka Esterhazy Talks Tim Rozon’s Luke & His Lovely Lullaby

In Season 2 of SYFY’s supernatural series SurrealEstate, Luke Roman (Tim Rozon) is understandably suffering and in pain. He is spiraling out of control as he deals with the loss of his ability to talk to the deceased, including his father.

In the sophomore season’s second episode, “Truth in Advertising,” Luke reveals that while he may have lost his ability to reach through the veil, he does possess the ability to carry a tune.

PopWire recently connected with SurrealEstate Director/Executive Producer Danishka Esterhazy where she discussed the vocal stylings of Luke Roman and the multi-talented actor who portrays him.

“It’s definitely their real voices,” Esterhazy tells us of Rozon and co-star Savannah Basley [Zooey], both of whom shared a brief duet in the episode. “And of course, is there anything that Tim Rozon can’t do? [laughs] Anything you ask him to do he does amazingly. He can act, he can do stunts, he can do drama, he can do comedy, he can sing! No surprise at all.”

When it came time to develop interesting ghost stories for the new season of the resurrected series, Esterhazy shares that there was a certain element that SurrealEstate creator and showrunner George R. Olson was passionate about and wanted to incorporate into the show.

“George really loves lullabies and the way that they play into classic horror movies, and really wanted to bring a lullaby as one of the ghostly elements into one of our episodes,” she says. “George wrote the lyrics to that lullaby and our amazing composer Spencer Creaghan wrote the melody.

“Our composer recorded a guide track with the tune and the melody and then had the actors learn them,” she continues. “I loved Tim’s performance of that lullaby in 2×02. It’s really heartbreaking and really powerful.”

With Volumes 1 & 2 of the SurrealEstate soundtrack available to purchase and stream, could there be a possibility of a studio version of the lullaby with Rozon and Basley on the next release?

“I’ll pass that along because I know Spencer was able to release a lot of the tracks from Season 1 and we were so glad to be able to get those out there for the fans,” Danishka Esterhazy says. “So yeah, we’ll see if we can get the lullaby out. That would be amazing.”

SurrealEstate airs Wednesdays at 10pm on SYFY.
