“Astrid & Lilly Save the World” Episode ‘Lips’ Recap: Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby!

Being a teenager with raging hormones is not an uncommon occurrence at a high school, so when a monster with super-charged pheromones and the need to reproduce on a massive scale disguises itself as a randy teen, Astrid (Jana Morrison) and Lilly’s (Samantha Aucoin) detective skills are put to the test as they search for a monster that’s hiding right under their nose. If there’s one thing to say about Astrid & Lilly Save the World‘s latest episode “Lips,” written by Alexandra Mircheff and directed by Danishka Esterhazy, it’ll have you rethinking who you swap spit with, no matter how hot the person is.

Teen Spirit & Pheromones | The smell of teen spirit and pheromones is thick in the halls of Pine Academy High with the arrival of the school’s Spirit Day Fair, a lesson in sex ed, and a new student by the name of Trystan Howell. Vice Principal Knight (Megan Hutchings) is giving instructions on practicing safe sex when in walks Trystan (Carson MacCormac) like a model fresh off the runway. Everyone in the room pine in his presence, including the VP. Who is this kid and how is anyone this attractive?!

Lip Lock | Trystan catches the eye of newly single Candace (Julia Doyle) during lunch. She invites him to find her kissing booth during the school fair that evening. Trystan happily takes the invitation. Watching what looks to be the initiation of the next “it” couple, Lilly’s stomach turns and hightails out of the cafeteria. While Lilly gathers herself in the hallway, her super-leg alerts her that something sinister is afoot. Sure enough, she spots a nightmarish creature whisking away a student.

Brutus (Oliver Renaud) gives Astrid and Lilly the skinny on their current foe: “Copiosos Laber is its name and reproductions is its game.” The Copiosos Laber uses human throats as incubators for its thousands of eggs. Any person within a few feet of its irresistible pheromones can’t help but be lured in for a lip lock. The only way our monster hunters will be able to catch this one is a pair of nose plugs and a giant “monster trap” that resembles a condom. Good thing Vice Principal Hutchings just taught them how to apply one to a banana!

“I consent” | While students and teachers are distracted by funnel cake, skee-ball, and Candace’s kissing booth, Astrid and Lilly are on patrol. Not before long, the gals find their target and Lilly sends it to monster hell with a swift kick to the face.

A quick triumph lets the girls off the hook to now enjoy the Spirit Day Fair festivities. Astrid and Sparrow (Spencer Macpherson) borrow the backseat of Lilly’s car to “consent enthusiastically” to some much-anticipated lovemaking. While Astrid and her boyfriend are getting frisky, Lilly finds herself alone with Candace. The chemistry between the longtime frienemies finally erupts and the girls share a sweet kiss. The monster beak in Lilly’s back pocket gives her a poke and reminds her that she has business to tend to, so she puts a pause on her moment with Candace.

Wrong Lips | Something’s off – the orb won’t accept the creature’s beak. It seems they collected the wrong lips? As it turns out, the monster they smoked is the Laber’s personal assistant and egg-sitter. A process of elimination with their pal Brutus leads the BFFs to the real enemy – the charming Trystan, who has committed a kissing booth takeover and is lining up drones of students to make out with.

By the time Astrid and Lilly elbow their way to the front of the line, Trystan has disappeared, but Astrid is able to use her superhuman hearing to track him down. They find him and his collection of human egg cartons and are able to put a stop to his antics of seduction and destroy his nest before the school is infested with a few thousand more “Trystans”. Using the ginormous rubber, the Copiosos Laber is collected and dispensed into the orb.

Hey, Monster Hunters! I think our girls’ fresh love-ships are going to need some official “ship” names. “Candilly”? “Sparstrid”? Help your girl out and comment with your ideas below!
