Freeform’s Motherland: Fort Salem just hit with an INTENSE finale to their second season! By the end of the hour long episode Alder is gone (maybe), our favorite unit is on the run, and the Vice President kills his own daughter to help the Camarilla. ‘Revolution, Part 1’ was written by Eliot Laurence and Brian Studler, and directed by Amanda Tapping.
Witch Plague | The witch plague is everywhere in Fort Salem, killing everyone unlucky enough to cross it. General Bellweather (Catherine Lough Haggquist) is busy delegating duties to take the base back when Alder (Lyne Renée) and her Biddies enter, they’re there to help. Petra is grateful for the help and send them to fight with Anacostia (Demetria McKinney). Petra has Nicte (Arlen Aguayo-Stewart) brought to her right as a group of Camarilla make it in and attack. Petra is willing to set her differences aside with Nicte for the time being so they can fight together for all of witch-kind.
Tally (Jessica Sutton) realizes she can use her Sight to see the frequencies the Camarilla are using to interfere with their work. Tally is able to come up with a frequency to jam it, and teaches it to everyone else. They’re finally able to fight with their work.
Anacostia, Alder, and the Biddies fight a group of Camarilla until one infects a Biddie with Witch Plague. The disease kills all of the Biddies, which in turn effects Alder. Anacostia is able to get her to safety, but no one is able to stop the rapid aging and petrifying Alder’s body is going through without her Biddies. She’s just strong enough to hang on for a little while longer. Anacostia is not prepared to lose her mother-figure.
The Source | As Petra and Nicte finish off the group of Camarilla they were fighting Dr. Alban Hearst (Bob Frazer) and a few others enter the room. Alban thanks Nicte for her work, because she made it so easy to turn humans against witches with what she had been doing with the Spree. Hearst tells Petra that he’ll be finding Abigal and Adil (Tony Giroux) soon, because the “union between Earth and sky must be prevented at all costs.” It sounds like Abigail and Adil could be pretty powerful together and the Camarilla are afraid of that happening. Petra gets a message and knows how to disable the Camarilla’s toys preventing them from doing their work. She sets Nicte free, disables their toys, then they take these guys out. Unfortunately Dr. Creepy has already left the room.
Khalida (Kylee Brown) is being attacked when Adil comes in to protect her, but he ends up getting stabbed in the back. Khalida jumps to action and turns the man responsible into magma that crashes to the floor. I guess she’s no longer a pacifist. Adil is okay, thankfully.
Quinn (Sandra Ferens) and Scylla (Amalia Holm) are in the Cession with the Dodgers when Edwin tells them what’s going on at Fort Salem. They know the war is here and get prepared.
The source of the Witch Plague is Penelope Silver, the Vice President’s daughter. She is infected and spreading it everywhere, but she has no idea what is happening. Raelle (Taylor Hickson) tries to hit it with her Witch Bomb, but it only helps briefly. Penelope is terrified and pleading for help. The unit knows what they have to do, so they work together to lift Penelope into the air and quickly kill her. This saves the rest of Fort Salem.
Murderers | The next morning Raelle calls home to let her father and Scylla know she’s okay. Raelle tells Scylla she loves her before getting off the phone.
Alder is barely holding on and requests to see Raelle and her unit, and to be taken to the Mother Mycelium. The unit arrives and they, along with Anacostia, say their tearful goodbyes. Raelle calls the Mother, and she reaches out and pulls Alder into her. Sarah Alder is now part of the Witch afterlife she created.
VP Silver (Victor Webster) arrives and arrests Raelle, Abigail, and Tally for killing his daughter. Petra is PISSED. She goes to D.C. to speak with President Wade (Sheryl Lee Ralph) in person, but the President won’t budge. She knows that Not Our Daughters is going to use Penelope’s death as more of a reason to hate witches, so she needs to make an example out of these witches to prove that there are consequences for anyone and everyone.
Escape Plan | There’s no way Petra is going to let these heroes go to prison for saving Fort Salem, so she devises a plan involving several different people. Adil, Khalida, Quinn, Scylla, Anacostia, and Petra all worked together to get Raelle, Tally, and Abigail to safety. Scylla and Raelle decide to never leave each other again. Now they all have to hide out and keep a low profile for a while. And to everyone’s shock, they’re being left with Nicte Batan to look after them.
Mr. President? | At the end of the episode, VP Silver is having a meeting with Hearst, and it’s now we learn the truth. Silver let Hearst in to infect his daughter, and in turn kill her. He’s working for the Camarilla, and all because he wants to become President.
Alive? | We see deep into the Earth, where the Mycelium is taking up residency. Alder is in the middle of it, and we see her eyes open.
