Syfy’s Hauntingly Hilarious “SurrealEstate” is To Die For! 5 Reasons to Watch the Spooktacular New Series

Syfy’s new series SurrealEstate is about to be unearthed. Though the series follows a group of real estate agents, the show isn’t so much about house hunting, but more house haunting. You see, the team members that make up “The Roman Agency,” the firm within the show, are specialists that handle haunted and possessed houses. The agency, their haunted clients, and everything else we’ve listed below is why we believe the summer series just may be your new supernatural obsession.

KILLER CREW | The stellar cast features Tim Rozon and Sarah Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”) as agency owner Luke Rozon and newcomer to the team, Susan Ireland; Maurice Dean Wint as August, the technology specialist; Savannah Basley as Zooey, the office manager; and Adam Korson as Phil, the research specialist. We’re loving the chemistry between them so far, and we can’t wait to see how their relationships progress as the season moves forward.

FUNNY BONES | The series isn’t straight up horror; it’s incredibly funny as well. “I think we’re lucky in a sense that it never felt like it was a horror genre show,” Rozon recently said to PopWire, “not in the writing, not in the way we shot it, not in the performance, not from the other actors, which is cool.” “All those pops of comedy that came up, I don’t think that we were expecting them to be as prominent as they were, at least I wasn’t when we first began,” Levy adds. “The horror aspect is there for sure, but the comedy aspect really kind of balances it out in a really fun, nice way. We get a little bit of everything.”

SPICE GHOULS | There are some scenes in SurrealEstate that may or may not keep you up at night, but that horror aspect of the show is something that Rozon calls a bonus. The agency is “a bunch of people who find their family in this group,” Rozon says. “It’s like a real eclectic group. That’s the meat and potatoes of the show. The heart of it is the group and then the horror actually adds a nice spice to it that I don’t think any other show really has, which is great.”

BEAST MODE | That horror comes via the spine-tingling weekly cases and the demons and beasts that await the team in their clients’ homes. “There’s literally a different beast every episode,” Rozon reveals. “Whether it’s the house itself, or the person selling the house, the person buying the house, whoever it’s dealing with. It also lays the groundwork for the internal demons that the characters that we play will be facing, which in some ways will be much scarier than the physical demons we have to encounter.”

SLICK & TWISTED | There’s a brief moment in the series premiere that gave us goosebumps and made us gasp out loud. If the rest of the season delivers twists like this on the regular, then buckle up, because we’ll be in for a wild ride. “[Series creator George R. Olson] is one of the best writers I’ve ever worked with,” Rozon says. “If you could put what’s so perfect on paper on the screen, we’re fine. It’s amazing that they let us play within that area and go places because it’s so perfect.” Says Levy, “The project itself is fantastic from start to finish.”

SurrealEstate is hauntingly hilarious and bound to become a cult favorite. Whether you are into real estate, the supernatural and/or the paranormal, this series is one you’ll definitely want to check out. Simply put, SurrealEstate is to die for.
