“The Fosters” Recap: Finding Passion

Freeform’s latest episode of The Fosters focuses on a lot of the characters discovering new passions and opportunities whether it be in education or love. ‘Makeover’ was written by Cristian Martinez and Kris Q. Rehl, and directed by Laura Nisbet.

Lying Jude | Jude (Hayden Byerly) has been getting made fun of for how he dresses by online fans, so Declan (Tyler Alvarez) suggests a makeover. Jude goes along with it, and he really does look good after, but the kids at school just make fun of him for that too. During their next livestream Declan gets Jude to change his shirt on-camera, to give the audience a bit of a show. Too bad Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena (Sherri Saum) are inside watching, horrified with what their youngest son is doing on camera. Stef tears into him for it and tries to ban him from livestreaming ever again, but Lena gets her to agree to give him one last chance to clean it up. But Declan and their sponsor don’t want him to clean it up, so they drop him. Or at least that’s what he tells his moms, but really he’s just going to keep doing it behind their backs.

Love or Robots | Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) is having a hard time focusing on her robot due to her busy social calendar, and Logan (Christopher Meyer) and Wyatt (Alex Saxon) are taking up even more time than she anticipated. She still can’t decide who she likes more, and all the boy infatuation is causing her to fall even further behind on her robot, she hasn’t even figure out what she wants it to do yet! That is, until she finds a picture of a maze in the living room. Suddenly she’s inspired and tells her teacher the next day that she will be designing a robot that will navigate through any maze. It sounds like a great idea until Emma (Amands Leighton) comes in moments later and says she’s changing her robot’s design so it can navigate the same maze Mariana just showed him. Uh-oh, what has Mariana done by using that maze she found???

New Major | Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Ximena (Lisseth Chavez) participate in UCSD’s panel about social media’s impact on politics as a favor for Aaron (Elliot Fletcher) and his new boo thang. On the panel Callie demonstrates her passion and knowledge on immigration law, prompting her to be approached by one of the school’s law professors who is bummed when he hears she’s applied to the art program instead of law.

Callie has been working on a video for Ximena’s parents, one they could use to try to persuade a judge from deporting her parents. They perfect it before going to court, but even with the video and proof that they aren’t trouble the judge rules to deport them in 30 days time. Callie can’t stand this injustice and goes straight to that law professor, she wants into the law program.

Future in Film | Grace (Meg DeLacy) tells Brandon (David Lambert) he needs to find something to do to fill his time since he can’t go to school this year. He decides to help Callie with the music on her video for Ximena and at first he falls flat. But after meeting with someone who does film scoring, he rewrites the score for the video and knocks it out of the park. B has found what he wants to do, film scoring.
