“The Fosters” Recap: Ladies Night Out

Freeform’s The Fosters is beginning to wind down as it approaches the series finale, but that doesn’t keep things from heating up! ‘Mother’s Day’ brings to town Stef’s mother and a whole load of other problems for her and the family. The episode was written by Joanna Johnson and directed by Bradley Bredeweg.

Para-What? | Jesus (Noah Centineo) finally has a capable paraprofessional, but he wants another one because this one is “too hot” and makes it hard for him to focus. Well that’s too bad, Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena (Sherri Saum) decide it’s time to teach their a son a lesson on sexism and that locker room talk is not tolerated anywhere. Jesus must continue to work with his hot para, and he must also keep the other students from disrespecting her the way he had. This could turn out to be a very valuable lesson for the high school junior.

Health Proxy | Grace (Meg DeLacy) made Brandon (David Lambert) her health proxy, and her mom is not happy about it. She doesn’t think B is capable of making such important decisions for her daughter, but once Grace explains to her why, she understands. If Grace needs to have the plug pulled, she doesn’t want to leave her mother with the guilt she’ll have over pulling it. She knows B will honor her wishes, even when it’s tough.

Night Out | Stef’s mother Sharon (Annie Potts) is in town, making Stef’s anxiety even worse than it’s been. Tess (Kristen Ariza) decided to come out to Sharon, and the two plan a ladies night out on the town, Stef can go too. According to both Tess and Sharon, the night was a huge success, but Stef doesn’t feel the same way. She hated watching her old BFF and her mom get hit on by women all night.

The next day is Mother’s Day, and the family has a huge backyard brunch to celebrate, but nothing ever goes smoothly in the Adams-Foster household. The events that take place during the brunch all lead Stef to one major panic attack in front of her mother. But guess what, Sharon was a huge asset for Stef to have at that moment. It turns out Sharon started having panic attacks when she was around Stef’s age, and she’s got a good way of managing them that Stef benefitted from. Maybe Stef can learn more from her mother than she realized.

Figured It Out | Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) is one smart cookie, she’s put together what’s going on with Tess and wants to tell Logan (Christopher Meyer). Logan thinks his parents split up because his father cheated on his mom, he has no idea his mom might be gay. Mariana goes to Lena with the info she’s figured out, and Lena convinces her not to say anything to Logan yet. But Mariana might not ever get the chance to tell him the truth, because Tess threatens her and tells her not to tell her son the truth.

Time To Move On | Callie (Maia Mitchell) and Jude (Hayden Byerly) decide to go visit their mother’s grave this Mother’s Day. Callie had a dream about their mother the night before and she asked Callie why she was wearing her necklace. Callie takes this as a sign that it’s time to move on from her mother’s death, she takes off her necklace and replaces it with a beautiful one Ximena (Lisseth Chavez) gave her.

Woah woah woah, Tess threatened Mariana?!? I wonder how Stef and Lena will take that news! Keep watching The Fosters to see what happens!
