“The Fosters” Recap: ICE ICE, Baby

The Fosters decided to take another big story, once again, this week with Aaron’s story. We also dive deeper into Tess/Dean drama, and things heat back up between Jude and Declan. ‘Scars’ was written by Cristian Martinez and Kris Q. Rehl, and directed by Kelli Williams.

Gamer Swag | Jude (Hayden Byerly) begins receiving gifts from fans, but his moms are not okay with it. Lena (Sherri Saum)wants him to stop accepting gifts, so he gives the awesome headphones he got to Taylor (Izabela Vidovic). Things between Jude and Declan (Tyler Alvarez) are also back to high heat in the flirting department. They’ve decided flirting on-screen for fans is okay, but it’s clear Declan wants more.

Marriage Troubles | Things between Tess (Kristen Ariza) and Dean (Reggie Austin) are getting worse, and that’s somehow effecting Stef’s (Teri Polo) anxiety. She has a panic attack in a grocery store and make Brandon (David Lambert) drop what he’s doing at the hospital to help her.

Reaching Out | Remember the creepy ICE officer following Callie (Maia Mitchell)? Turns out he’s more guilty than creepy. He feels bad about what happened with Ximena (Lisseth Chavez) and knows ICE is getting out of hand. He offers Callie some info, there’s going to be an ICE raid on a high school soon, he doesn’t know which one, but he’ll keep her posted so she can go record it. Callie takes that info to Aaron (Elliot Fletcher), Ximena, and a few others and they decide to act.

When Callie gets the call about which school and students ICE is targeting, they head out. But of course things cant ever go smoothly for them. Someone pushes Aaron in front of an ICE agent and they arrest him for obstructing justice.

In jail, Aaron is terrified. Earlier, he’d had a convo with Callie about his scars and how coming out as transgender is different, and it’s obvious that conversation is weighing on him now. Callie does the only thing she knows she can do, she asks Stef for help as well as confronting her ICE buddy to get them to drop the charges. Stef tells Aaron to disclose that he’s transgender if he doesn’t think he’ll be safe in a men’s prison, so he does, and they don’t know what to do with him.

After he’s released, all charges dropped, he tells Callie he spent hours in segregation because they didn’t know what to do with him, highlighting one of this country’s many problems with the justice system.

Thank god The Fosters continues to highlight such important issues! What’s going to happen now between Aaron and Callie? Is Tess ever going to be honest with Dean?
